HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, made her comments during an interview with news site 24.ae to mark International Mothers Day.
She said: “The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan encouraged women to WORK
in suitable fields. He was eagerly anticipating the day when the Emirati women became doctors, engineers or ambassadors and thanks to Allah the Almighty, his dreams came true when women became ministers, FNC members, doctors, lawyers, judges, professors and investors.
“They proved their ability to innovate and to WORK
side by side with their fellow countrymen.”
Sheikha Fatima, who is known as the ‘Mother of the Nation’ and was also named ‘Mother of the Arab’ ahead of mothers day, underlined the UAE’s desire to empower women, providing education, EMPLOYMENT
and training.
She said she was proud of the progress made by Emirati women in all domains.
She added: “My message to the Emirati women is that it is important to maintain the accomplishments made and be open to other cultures without compromising their Islamic values, identity, traditions and heritage.”
Sheikha Fatima also paid tribute to the mothers of the martyrs for their sacrifices for their country.
“I salute Hessa Al Qadi, the mother of our martyr Tariq Al Shehi, and all mothers of Emirati martyrs and say to them: you are the true role model for the all mothers. You deserve appreciation for your infinite patience, devotion and sacrifice.”
UAE serviceman Al Shehi was killed in a bomb attack in Bahrain last year.
Sheikha Fatima attributed the progress made in the UAE by women to the leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, according to a report by national news AGENCY
