Drivers snapped flicking middle fingers at speed cameras in Dubai
However, Dubai Police have revealed that three men couldn't have been happier to see the light – having triggered the radars intentionally so they could be snapped flicking their middle finger at the law.
Police said the Arabs were travelling atexcessive speed in a car when they all made the crude gesture.
However, the jokes on them as the camera captured their prank and their REGISTRATION
and they have since been arrested and are facing a possible date in court after being referred to public prosecutors. The speed camera images could be used as evidence if action is taken.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, head of Dubai Traffic Police, said that the three men had clearly intended to commit an offence. He also said that the same prank had been carried out by two other drivers this year.
He said: “Our cameras caught three men speeding then flashing their middle finger to the radar. They sped intentionally so that it would take their picture doing this – it’s like they wanted to insult the camera.”
Al Mazroui added: “It’s showing that they don’t care or respect the speed radar. “There is no reason to do what they did.”
Among the charges being considered by Dubai Public Prosecution will be making an insulting gesture, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and deportation for expatriates.
Police did not state the nationalities or ages of the men, nor where and when the offences took place.
There are now 515 speed cameras on Dubai roads. There are also radars to capture drivers running red lights and running over tram lines.
New tower radars can also record several offences at the same time, such as speeding and cutting into a hard shoulder to avoid traffic.
