Dubai: A mother cried with joy on Wednesday after being reunited with a son and daughter she had not seen for 34 years.
Dubai Police helped the GCC national meet up with her children. She had not been in contact with them since she and their father divorced.
First Corporal Reem Al Amiri at the victims’ care centre at Al Qusais Police Station said the reunion at the police station was very moving.
Corporal Reem said the story began 34 years ago when the woman and her Omani husband got divorced and the father took the three children from the mother.
She said their elder daughter was born in 1977, the second was born in 1978 and their son was born in 1979.
“The father at that time gave his younger son to an Emirati family to raise and he lived with them as their own child,” she said.
She said the son was given Emirati nationality and lived with the family since he was born and knew nothing about his family background.
She added the father gave his second daughter to relatives in Oman, where she grew up and got married and had children of her own.
“The father used to meet this daughter since she lived with his relatives in Oman,” she said.
Corporal Reem added the daughter used to ask her father about her mother and brother and other sister but he told her it was none of her business.
“The father died two years ago and was buried in Oman. During the funeral the daughter met some other family members from the UAE who told her that they could find her brother,” she said.
She said the sister met her brother and last week the pair visited Al Qusais Police Station asking for help in finding their mother and elder sister.
“The brother and his sister came to us with a copy of their mother’s expired passport and a copy of their sister’s expired passport.”
She said that in just three days the victims’ care centre was able to find their mother.
“We called the mother to the police station, she was not aware of anything,” she said.
The mother told police that she re-married 33 years ago to an Iranian. Corporal Reem said the mother told them she had nine children from her second marriage but she was also the mother of three children from her first marriage.
She said she had tried to approach her ex-husband in the past but he refused to give her any information about the children.
“We were sure that she was the same woman we were looking for,” said Corporal Reem.
She said they contacted the daughter and the son who were unable to hold back their tears on meeting their mother.
Corporal Reem said that the victims’ care centre will make every effort to find the elder daughter, who is believed to be married and living in a GCC country.
