Emirati son was playing in garage when father arrived to park his four-wheeler in Fujairah

Fujairah: A two-year-old Emirati boy has died after being run over by his father’s vehicle in Fujairah, police told Gulf News yesterday.
The incident took place as the boy’s father was trying to park his four-wheel-drive car at his house in Dibba on Wednesday morning, said Lieutenant Abdullah Al Khuzaimi, acting director of traffic and patrols department of Dibba- Fujairah Police.
The 30-year-old father was negotiating parking in the house garage and had not noticed his son, identified as Majid Al Abdoli, playing there.
The child had died on the spot.
The Fujairah police operations room received a call at 10am from a police office at the Dibba Fujairah hospital reporting the incident.
“The car has high clearance and I could not see my small son,” police quoted the grieving father as saying. “Only when the car had crossed completely over his son, he knew something had gone wrong,” a police officer added.
The father was inconsolable and “could not control himself over what happened. A police team helped to calm and console him.
Lt Al Khuzami said there was no foul play involved. He urged parents to monitor their children carefully and ensure guardians are supervising their play time. Funeral prayers for the boy was held at Shaikh Zayed mosque on Wednesday afternoon and the child was buried at Dibba-Fujairah cemetery.
